The NHRP was initiated in 1983 to identify outstanding Hispanic/Latino high school students. This year, the HNRP is recognizing nearly 5,000 students selected from a pool of over 200,000 students who took the 2007 PSAT/NMSQT/PAA and identified themselves as Hispanic. Students recognized by the NHRP are at least one-quarter Hispanic based on the program’s definition and have achieved a minimum PSAT/NMSQT/PAA score for their region.
Students with GPAs of 3.5 or higher are designated as Scholars and those with GPAs of 3.0to 3.49 as Honorable Mentions.
Although the College Board is not able to provide monetary awards, it is a prestigious recognition for these outstanding students. A list of recognized students is being distributed to subscribing four=year postsecondary institutions this month. This gives the students an opportunity to hear from colleges that are particularly interested in communicating with prospective students of Hispanic heritage.
These students will be recognized at the October meeting of the Friendswood ISD Board of Trustees. |
