ABOUT US
Friendswood High School is located in Friendswood, Texas primarily a residential area located in the northwestern corner of Galveston County, approximately 25 miles from downtown Houston. City of Friendswood Online

We are the only high school in the Friendswood Independent School District. Friendswood High School is a 4A school with an approximate enrollment of 1704.

We at Friendswood High School are proud to be a part of a TEA Recognized rated district. We have made it a major goal to assist our students in the development of their academic skills as well as provide them with opportunities to participate in a variety of extracurricular activities.

Friendswood High School houses grades 9-12. It was built in four phases, the first phase in 1970 with additions in 1973 and 1999.

It contains two major mall areas interconnected by two smaller hallways, with additional classrooms located in a fine arts annex building and science and math wing just off the main building. The high school site includes Henry Winston stadium, baseball field, softball field, soccer practice field, two gyms, the Walter D. Wilson Field House, an auditorium, and cafeteria. The new Science Wing, Fine Arts Wing, and additions to the athletic facilities were completed during the 1999-2000 school year. FHS has an enrollment of 1,800 students. FHS offers three degree plans and numerous advanced placement and honors courses as well as distinguished programs in fine arts, humanities, sciences, and mathematics. All UIL sanctioned varsity sports are available at FHS.  

In the area of academics, Friendswood High School was named one of the best high schools in the greater Houston area by the Houston Chronicle and one of the top 44 high schools in Texas by the Texas Business and Education Coalition. The UIL Academic team repeated as the District 23 AAAA, Regional III AAAA Champions and won the overall State Championship for the third year in a row. Five students advanced to State Science Fair, and two participated in International Competition. Two students advanced to nationals in the National Forensic competition. The Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior Classes set a high standard for TAKS, the preliminary rating for Friendswood High School is Exemplary. The English Language Arts passing rates are 98% (10th) and 99% (11th). Freshmen passing rate for reading is 99%. The Math scores are 91% (9th), 89% (10th), and 97%(11th). Sophomores and Juniors also take Science and Social Studies. Science scores are 94%(10th) and 98%(11th). Social Studies passing rates are 98% (10th) and 99%(11th).
This year’s athletic teams were well represented in Regional and State Competition. FHS again finishes the 2007-2008 year as the runner-up in the “Lone Star Cup” competition. Which ranks all AAAA schools in the state on athletic and UIL academic achievement. FHS claimed twelve district championships that included: volleyball, baseball, boys/girls golf, team tennis, spring tennis, boys/girls swimming, boys/girls cross country and boys/girls soccer. Boy’s basketball advanced to the bi-district playoffs. Volleyball and girls soccer each advanced to the State Semi- Finals.  Boy’s baseball claimed the Regional Championship and has advanced to the State Tournament for the first time in school history. Swimming was very strong with both boys and girls represented at state. Cole Cragin set two state records in the butterfly, and backstroke.

In area of Fine Arts, all areas experienced success. The Marching Band received superior ratings at the UIL Region Marching Contest and was the Area F UIL Marching Champion. The Marching Band won 4th place at the AAAA UIL State Marching Contest at the Alamodome. The Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band and Concert Band all brought home top honors in Concert & Sight Reading earning the UIL Sweepstakes Award. The Campus Singers, Women’s Choir, Combined Girl’s Choir and Combined Mens’ Choir all earned top ratings at Concert & Sightreading Contest receiving the UIL Sweepstakes Award. Three choir students and nine band students were selected for TMEA All-State Honors. The Campus Singers were selected as a TMEA Invited Performing Choir and performed at the TMEA State Convention in February. The Wranglerettes won the highest awards given in both the team and officer divisions at each of the four contests they attended this year. They were named Showtime International Large Team National Champions. In the process they brought home more gold than they have shelves to display it on. The Musical Cast received ten nominations in the Tommy Tune Awards and the UIL One-Act Play was a state finalist.

Career Tech programs had a banner year!  Our medical students had a wonderful HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) season with 17 state competition qualifiers.  They will be sending 4 students on to national competition this summer in the areas of Outstanding HOSA chapter, Pharmacology, Physical Therapy and Extemporaneous Health Poster too! Our engineering students also had a great competitive year with TSA (Technology Students of America). They had 17 "Best in State" awards this year and will be sending 9 students on to national competition in Orlando this summer!  While they are there, they've been invited to be a part of a special "behind the scenes" technology tour at Disney World.  Our marketing students had 4 state qualifiers in the DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) competition, with one national DECA alternate this year.  BPA (Business Professionals of America) had 3 students compete at state, and 2 national alternates this year.  Also, in Technology Applications, four of our computer science students placed 2nd at their TCEA state competition!

The Class of 2008 had four National Merit Finalists, twenty-one National Merit Commended students, and seven students were named National Hispanic Recognition Scholar. To date, the seniors have been offered $7,532,062.00 in scholarships and they have accepted $4,071,942.00 in scholarships.
